MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Twins star Byron Buxton had arthroscopic surgery Friday on his troublesome right knee with the goal of alleviating the irritation related to patellar tendinitis and returning to center field next season.“That’s his focus. That’s what he wants, and that’s what we all want,” president of baseball operations Derek Falvey said Friday. “So that’ll be our mission through the offseason, to get him there.”The recovery timeline for Buxton is projected to be much shorter than after the cleanup procedure he had on the knee last year, Falvey said in a season-ending interview with reporters. “The hope here is in just a few short weeks he’s getting moving around again and starting to go through physical therapy in the offseason,” Falvey said. “We’re hopeful that this will get him on track. It obviously wasn’t the season Byron wanted from a physical standpoint. We did all we could throughout the course of the year to try to put him in the best position to be succ...

Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos are still searching for the right chemistry

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Sean Payton is a man in search of his mojo. Payton never lost five of his first six games during his 15 seasons as the New Orleans Saints coach and the Broncos have never started out worse than the 1-5 record they brought back to Denver after their latest loss to Kansas City.Payton’s play-calling and the Broncos’ execution weren’t good enough to capitalize on a suddenly stout Denver defense that limited Patrick Mahomes to a single touchdown drive Thursday night. The result was a 16th consecutive loss to Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs (5-1), this time by a score of 19-8.Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph has taken plenty of heat with the Broncos dead last in several statistical categories so far, and Payton deserves similar scrutiny after the Broncos’ bumbling offensive performance at Arrowhead Stadium on a night the Chiefs seemed ripe for an upset.Russell Wilson threw for a meager 95 yards, the third-lowest total of his 195 caree...

France raised its threat alert to its highest level, and the attack was being investigated by anti-terrorism prosecutors amid soaring global tensions over the war between Israel and Hamas. It also happened almost three years after another teacher, Samuel Paty, was beheaded by a radicalized Chechen near a Paris area school. The suspected attacker had been under surveillance since the summer on suspicion of Islamic radicalization, French intelligence services told The Associated Press. He was detained Thursday for questioning based on the monitoring of his phone calls in recent days, but investigators found no sign that he was preparing an attack, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said. ’’There was a race against the clock....
