SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Two of the Bay Area's major transit agencies issued statements Friday warning of serious service reductions unless state funding can be secured. The San Francisco Municipal Transit Agency warned that Muni faces an "impending fiscal cliff" without state funding. Bay Area Rapid Transit issued its own statement warning that BART too was moving closer to "plunging off the fiscal cliff."Both agencies have warned of the potential for drastic and sweeping service reductions unless the state can offer short-term financial aid to fund transit. Old Navy closing down SF Market Street location "One-time federal funds are dwindling even with BART's stringent cost controls and will be exhausted by early 2025," said BART President Janice Li and General Manager Bob Powers in a joint statement. "If transit operations is not included in this year's State budget, BART must begin making severe cuts to service and staffing, as early as this year.""San Francisco cannot afford to...

The Cincinnati Reds were well on their way to a 9-0 win over the Chicago Cubs on Friday, and that’s what mattered to him.“There’s going to be growing pains,” Greene said. “I’m trying to figure stuff out. We have a young group, young core of players. They’re going to be figuring things out. We’re working hard every single day. We’re putting pieces together, and it’s gonna pay off very soon.”Greene (1-4) set the tone as the Reds came within six outs of the majors’ first no-hitter this season. Yankees’ Aaron Boone suspended 1 game by MLB for conduct toward umpires

NEW YORK (AP) — Yankees manager Aaron Boone was handed a one-game suspension following his latest ejection and admitted his arguments may have created an image in the minds of umpires.“Well, I think I’ve earned that reputation,” he said Friday before Major League Baseball suspended him for one game and fined him.Michael Hill, MLB’s senior vice president for on-field operations, made the announcement. MLB said the discipline was “for his recent conduct toward major league umpires, including the actions following his ejection from Thursday night’s game against the Baltimore Orioles.”Boone was forced to sit out Friday night’s series opener against San Diego. He was ejected for the major league-high fourth time this season, the most among big league managers, when he became angry with Edwin Moscoso’s strike zone during a 3-1 loss. Boone held up four fingers while arguing in the middle of the third inning, signaling Boone thought the plate umpire missed four pitches. Boo...

Debt ceiling deadline now days June 5, scrambling Biden-McCarthy talks on deal

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 10:57:06 GMT

WASHINGTON (AP) — Upending debt-ceiling talks with time running short, the government announced a new June 5 default deadline late Friday, dragging the White House and Republicans toward another week of cliff-edge negotiations over cutting spending and raising the nation’s legal debt limit. The new date, set out in a letter from Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, came with Americans and the world already highly concerned about U.S. brinkmanship. In a blunt warning, Yellen said failure to act by the new date would “cause severe hardship to American families, harm our global leadership position and raise questions about our ability to defend our national security interests.” Anxious retirees were already making contingency plans for missed checks, with the next Social Security payments due next week. The new deadline, a week from Monday, is four days later than earlier expected. Yellen said all “extraordinary measures” Treasury has resorted to would be exhausted. The sudden announceme...

La celebración del gol de Cristiano Ronaldo contra el Al-Shabab se vuelve viral

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 10:57:06 GMT

Idle Nuggets hold light practice, waiting for Celts and Heat to decide NBA Finals foe

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 10:57:06 GMT

DENVER (AP) — Denver Nuggets guard Bruce Brown has been using the long layoff before the start of the NBA Finals to work on his game — his golf game.“First day of golf I played pretty well,” Brown recounted. “The second day was terrible.”On Friday, it was back to the business of Brown hitting the shots he hits the best — jumpers — as the Nuggets returned to the court for a light practice. Game 1 of the franchise’s first appearance in an NBA Finals is still nearly a week away and their opponent has yet to be determined, with Boston and Miami heading into Game 6 of its Eastern Conference finals series. The rest has certainly been welcome. The rust, though, does become a concern. “It’s impossible to keep your rhythm if you’re not playing games,” Nuggets coach Michael Malone said. “You can do whatever you want in practice, but there’s no way you can replicate playing in an NBA playoff game.”The Nuggets celebrated sweeping the Los Angeles Lakers on the plane ride ...

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw was set to start Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays after being activated from the bereavement list Friday.Kershaw went on the list Monday following the death of his mother, Marianne Tombaugh. The left-hander took the loss Sunday at St. Louis to fall to 6-4, allowing four runs over 3 2/3 innings.“I talked to Clayton a little bit today,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “He certainly feels much better than he did the last couple starts. There is some kind of overall body fatigue, the ball wasn’t coming out well, so he’s in a considerably better spot going into tomorrow.”Also, Julio Urías, the Los Angeles left-hander who left his start May 18 after three innings because of a strained left hamstring, was scheduled to throw off a mound Saturday.“Everything I’ve heard, he’s trending in the right direction,” Roberts said. “He’s going to throw a bullpen tomorrow, and so after that then we&#...
