APD: Officer shot, killed man in south Austin after he reportedly chased woman through apartment complex AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The Austin Police Department is investigating after a man was shot and killed by an officer in south Austin Thursday morning. APD Chief Joseph Chacon said during a briefing the department responded to a 911 call at an apartment complex in the 3600 block of Menchaca Road shortly before 5 a.m. That area is near the intersection of South Lamar Boulevard. The caller reported that a woman was knocking on their door asking for help. Chacon said three officers arrived on the scene within five minutes and spoke with the woman, who said she was being chased by a man through the complex and feared for her life. Chacon said the man approached police minutes later and it appeared he had a knife in his hand. Officers told the man to drop the knife then drew their guns and started trying to de-escalate the situation, Chacon said. According to Chacon, the man yelled at police to shoot and kill him. New street in southeast Austin paves way for affordable housing AUSTIN (KXAN) — A $2.7 million project in southeast Austin is complete.The Meadow Lake Boulevard extension connects what previously were two dead-end streets — Misty Slope Lane and Quicksilver Boulevard — into a quarter-mile stretch.The new road is located near Pleasant Valley Road and William Cannon Drive.It was constructed to create a safer shorter route for cars, pedestrians and bicyclists.Eric Bailey is the assistant director for the City of Austin's Capital Delivery Services. He said the biggest benefit will come to kids commuting to school this fall.“The highlight for us is the improved mobility for school kids to get from point A to point B,” Bailey said. Man bites two Maplewood officers during attempted arrest MAPLEWOOD, Mo. - A man is behind bars after he allegedly bit two Maplewood officers during an attempted arrest. Prosecutors have charged Nathaniel Odom, 52, with two counts of third-degree assault to a special victim and resisting arrest. The incident under investigation unfolded on July 15, 2023, outside a Schnucks store. Thieves target car washes, business owners band together to fight back According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, Odom was wanted for making a false police report. Police noticed him outside the Schnucks store and attempted to take him into custody.Investigators say Odom physically resisted the arrest and ignored all police commands, which led him to biting one sergeant. Thieves arrested after stealing lottery scratch off games from liquor store, driving into dead end   A pair of suspects were arrested after stealing lottery tickets from a liquor store in Orange County and leading authorities on a very brief chase. According to the Seal Beach Police Department, the two suspects, identified only as Zoryon and Marcus of Long Beach, used a crowbar to smash the glass window of West Beach Liquor located in the 400 block of Pacific Coast Highway around 3 a.m. on Tuesday. A patrol car in the area heard the store’s alarm sounding and upon arriving on the scene, located the two suspects fleeing the scene in a black Nissan Altima.
